When I worked at a clothing store while going to high school and college, the well-heeled individuals, and the sensible ordered from Allen Edmunds Shoes Catalog. I say sensible, because they spent a lot more up front, because the uppers would last for a very long time, and then you could resole for cheaper than another pair of cheap shoes.  Everyone said they were very comfortable and the best they ever had.
